    THE SNOWY EGRET (Egretta thula)

The Snowy Egret
Is distinguished from the Great egret by its  black bill, yellow feet, and smaller size.

Poised at Road Pond, Sandy Ground.

It was usually seen on the edge of pond or on marshy ground

Its brilliantly white plumes were once very popular on hats and resulted in the near extinction of the snowy egret in US earlier last century.

Their main foods are fish, crabs, frogs and insects.

The rainy season in Anguilla  helped to bring many of the ponds to life. Numerous Snowy Egrets may be seen on ponds around Anguilla
