Miss
Anguilla wins August Monday Boat Race - Beach Scenes
Included
August
7, 2007: Carnival revelers met, mingled, ate and drank
to their hearts desire on Sandy Ground, while the boats
battled it out on the seas. August Monday's all day
party after J'ouvert saw hundreds lining the Sandy Ground
beach from end to end. As evening drew near
they all gathered to see, the Miss Anguilla outflank
the other boats coming in first through the flags, followed
closely by the UFO in second, the
Real Deal a more distant third
and the Light & Peace 4th. The atmosphere was
festive and the young and old were out to enjoy it. The
diversified nature of Anguilla's current society was on
display as even the infamous "Carillion
Indians" were seen dancing to the calypso beat in the sand.
Throughout the day law enforcement maintained tight security
with the presence of both local police and
neighbouring security agents. Anguilla's Commissioner of
Police was seen at several locations, leading from the front
in ensuring the population could enjoy themselves in a crime
free environment. In speaking with Commissioner Benjamin
late in the afternoon, he indicated that there had been no
significant incidents during the August Monday J'ouvert and
beach bash to that point.
By 7:00pm the boats were in and the Caribbean beach party
was about to get started.
